Tunnel Project Background

The Boring Company had initially opened a 1.7-mile tunnel project in 2021 to transport passengers under the Las Vegas Convention Center. This project aimed to use Teslas for transportation. Subsequently, the company planned to expand the tunnel system to create the Vegas Loop, covering various key areas in Las Vegas.

Mistakes and Consequences

Documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request revealed that workers mistakenly dug too close to the pillars supporting the monorail. This resulted in Clark County issuing three violations related to two incidents in June and October of the previous year.

Temporary Suspension and Repairs

In response to the violations, the monorail system was temporarily suspended, and corrective measures were taken. An engineering firm assessed the risk, and a construction company applied a cement mixture over the exposed pillar base area. The monorail resumed operations after the repairs.

Lack of Comments

Despite inquiries, The Boring Company, Clark County, the monorail, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority remained silent on the matter, declining to provide comments.

Acknowledgment and Clarification

A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority acknowledged the incidents, attributing the June incident to a broken irrigation line. They clarified that concerns from the October incident were deemed unfounded, and the monorail operations were unaffected.
