Apple has launched the MagSafe battery pack, a magnetic charging accessory compatible with the iPhone 12 series, priced at ₹10,900 in India. This release comes eight months after the debut of the iPhone 12 lineup.

Convenient Magnetic Attachment

Designed for ease of use, the MagSafe battery pack attaches magnetically to the back of compatible iPhones, including the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. This magnetic attachment feature makes it ideal for travel, eliminating the need for cumbersome cables or power banks.

How the MagSafe Battery Pack Works

The MagSafe battery pack provides up to 15W of peak power to iPhone 12 devices. To charge the battery pack itself, users need to connect it to a 20W or higher USB Type-C power adapter. However, the actual power output may vary depending on the wattage of the adapter and system conditions.

According to information provided on Apple’s support page, the MagSafe charger can deliver up to 5W of power to charge the iPhone. Users can monitor the battery status by adding the Batteries widget on their MagSafe-compatible iPhone running iOS 14.7 or later.

Charging Features and Notifications

When charging with the MagSafe battery pack, users may receive a notification indicating that the iPhone will only charge up to 90%. However, users can adjust this setting in the Control Center by selecting the Lower Power Mode icon to allow charging beyond 90%.

Simultaneous charging of both the iPhone and MagSafe battery pack is possible by connecting either device to a power adapter. However, if charging both devices simultaneously, the iPhone may reach 80% or higher battery capacity before the MagSafe begins charging.

Battery Capacity and Pricing

While Apple has not officially disclosed the battery capacity of the MagSafe battery pack, an image on the Apple website suggests it features a 1460mAh battery, providing additional hours of battery life to iPhone 12 series devices.

The MagSafe battery pack is set to go on sale starting July 19, priced at $99 (approximately ₹7,400) in the US. In India, it will be available for ₹10,900 at a later date.

It’s important to note that the MagSafe battery pack does not include a power adapter or Lightning cable, which must be purchased separately. Therefore, users should consider the additional cost of these accessories when purchasing the device.
