Revitalizing Västberga: Telefonplanshall Sports Hall

Revitalizing Västberga: Telefonplanshall Sports Hall

In the Västberga district, a new sports hall has emerged to replace the inadequate facilities at Västberga School, situated adjacent to the sports grounds. The previous small hall, equipped with only two changing rooms, fell short in meeting accessibility standards and accommodating the frequency of usage.

Integrating with the Surroundings

AIX Arkitekter prioritized the hall’s integration with its surroundings, considering its proximity to the football field and the residential area at Klensmedsvägen. Emphasis was placed on enhancing the urban space and establishing an identity for the complex. Due to the limited plot size, the program is divided into two levels connected by an elevator and stairs. The ground floor features brick facades to blend with the adjacent area, while glulam timber structures provide support. The upper volume boasts wooden ribs and ample natural light.

Artistic Integration

An art piece adorns the western facade of the hall, where artists Cecilia Aaro and Matilda Fahlsten have intricately woven a pattern inspired by the building’s architecture, conveying a sense of energy and movement.

Enhanced Facilities

The new hall boasts a full-size sports hall and eight changing rooms, catering to both indoor sports and football or athletics. The main entrance from the field leads to a hall with a cafeteria, while a central staircase in the entrance room, doubling as a gathering area, provides access to the second-floor sports hall.

Accessibility and Community Engagement

Situated near the subway, the hall enjoys convenient access, fostering its use by clubs during evenings and weekends, enhancing community engagement and promoting an active lifestyle.

The Telefonplanshall Sports Hall stands as a testament to thoughtful design and community-centric architecture, revitalizing the Västberga district and providing a dynamic space for sports and recreation.
