The Sky Clubhouse: Blending Indoor and Outdoor Spaces

The Sky Clubhouse: Blending Indoor and Outdoor Spaces

The Sky Clubhouse, situated in the suburbs of Bangkok, Thailand, serves as a functional facility for a private residential project. Comprising a small gym on the upper level, along with interior living spaces and outdoor areas for diverse activities, this project aims to maximize functionality within a limited space.

Design Concept: Integrating Spaces

The primary concept behind the Sky Clubhouse is to create an open and seamless connection between the interior and exterior, as well as between different levels. The design revolves around the idea of a ‘stepping floor,’ which serves as a multifunctional platform for circulation, activities, and landscape integration. This design element guides visitors from the ground level to the gym on the upper floor, while also concealing the building’s service areas underneath.

Multifunctional Platforms and Green Spaces

The stepped floor design not only facilitates circulation but also divides the floor into small platforms, each catering to various activities and functions. These platforms offer flexible spaces that can adapt to different needs, such as relaxation areas, workspaces, or small amphitheaters. Interspersed between these platforms are small gardens, strategically placed to enhance the green ambiance and provide privacy between each area.

Architectural Character and Materials

While the materials used are standard and economical for Thailand, including concrete, terrazzo floors, and aluminum windows, the defining feature of the building is its white aluminum stripes façade. Gradually transitioning from vertical to horizontal, these stripes filter natural light from above and seamlessly connect the interior with the outdoor landscape. From the exterior, the façade creates the illusion of the building slowly unveiling itself, akin to opening a curtain to reveal the outside world.

The Sky Clubhouse epitomizes the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, offering residents a multifunctional and aesthetically pleasing environment within the confines of a small footprint.
