Tata Electronics Plants to Serve All Sectors, Generate Jobs: N Chandrasekharan

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran announced that Tata Electronics plants in Dholera will gradually cater to all sectors by supplying chips, generating approximately 72,000 jobs over time. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of Tata Electronics’ chip manufacturing plant and chip assembly facility in Assam, Chandrasekaran emphasized that expansion plans will follow after achieving initial milestones.

Sector-Wide Chip Supply

Chandrasekaran highlighted that Tata Electronics chips will meet the demands of various sectors, including automotive, power, electronics, consumer goods, and medical equipment, among others. While acknowledging the diverse needs across industries, he emphasized that the company aims to serve all sectors in a phased manner.

Chip Production Capabilities

The Tata chip plant possesses the capability to produce wafers ranging from 28 nanometers (nm) to 110 nanometer nodes. Although high-tech devices like smartphones and tablets often require chips in smaller nodes such as 3 nm, 7 nm, and 14 nm, Chandrasekaran affirmed the plant’s capacity to cater to a wide range of technological needs.

Job Creation

Chandrasekaran emphasized the significant job creation potential of the plants, stating that this is just the beginning. The projected job creation includes approximately 50,000 jobs in Dholera and around 20,000-22,000 jobs in Assam. However, he noted that expansion plans will be gradual and contingent upon achieving early milestones.

Accelerated Timeline

In an effort to expedite chip production, Chandrasekaran mentioned that the company is accelerating its timeline. While traditional fabs typically take about four years, Tata Electronics aims to commence chip production by the calendar year 2026. Chandrasekaran expressed optimism that commercial production in Assam could commence even earlier, potentially by late 2025 or early 2026.

In conclusion, Tata Electronics’ ambitious plans to serve diverse sectors and generate employment underscore its commitment to technological advancement and economic growth. With a focus on gradual expansion and accelerated timelines, the company aims to establish itself as a key player in the semiconductor industry while contributing to job creation and economic development in the region.
